Global warming has stopped

Britain’s Climatic Research Unit and UK Met office Hadley Research Centre have published their compilation of the data on the combined global land and marine surface temperature record through 2006. It shows the following: 1998 was the warmest year on record. Since then global temperature has FALLEN by .126 degrees centigrade. 2006 was cooler than 1998, 2002,2003 2004 and 2005.

It is of interest to note that during this same time-span CO2 levels have risen by about 4%, once again casting doubt on the idea that anthropogenic CO2 emissions are the main climate driver. It is also of interest to note that on a global basis August 2007 was 0.13 degrees cooler than August 2006.

Much has been made of the reduction in Arctic sea ice to record lows. Less has been made of the fact that Antarctic sea ice is at a record high. While the northern hemisphere is warmer, the southern hemisphere is cooler so that on balance since 1998 the earth has cooled.

I hope that this data might give some pause to the politicians and activists pressing for draconian CO2 reductions and embarking on disfiguring wind turbine construction. Obviously data over an 9 year span do not prove that a cooling trend has been established but it certainly raises questions about the IPCC models and projections.
